FAQ.

Quick answers about using Plates.

What is a progressive overloading tracker?

A progressive overloading tracker helps you record sets, reps and weight so you can see whether your lifts are improving over time. Plates keeps that history simple and easy to review.

Is Plates a free workout logger?

Yes. Plates is free to use, with no ads, subscriptions or paid tiers.

Does Plates work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Plates is available for iOS on the App Store and for Android on Google Play, with the same core logging features on both.

Does Plates work offline?

Yes. Plates is designed as an offline workout tracker, so you can log your training even when your gym has poor signal.

Does Plates need an account or sign-up?

No. You can start using Plates without creating an account. Your workouts are stored on your device, not on a server.

Is my workout data private?

Your workouts stay on your device. Plates does not require an account to log your training.

Can I customise my workout splits and exercises?

Yes. You can create your own splits, exercises and exercise groups to organise your training around the way you lift.

Can I switch between kilograms and pounds?

Yes. You can choose kg or lb during setup and change your weight units later from the app's settings.

Does Plates have workout history and stats?

Yes. Plates includes a calendar of past sessions, per-exercise progress charts and an activity heatmap so you can see your training over time at a glance.

How does Plates calculate progress?

For each exercise, Plates compares your latest session to the previous one. It looks at your strongest set of the day (an estimated one-rep max) and your total intensity-weighted volume, then combines them into a single percentage using a geometric mean. A positive number means you improved on that lift since last time. Whether the score leans more on heavy sets or on total work depends on your focus.

Can I change my focus between strength and size?

Yes. You can pick Strength or Size during onboarding and switch at any time from settings. Strength focus weighs progress more toward heavy sets at lower reps; Size focus weighs it more toward total work across sets and reps. Switching focus only changes how progress is scored, your logged workouts stay the same.

Why use Plates?

Plates is free, offline, private and ad free. It's also designed to be easy to use and fast to log your training.

What makes Plates different from other workout trackers?

Plates focuses only on logging your lifts. There are no calorie trackers, instructional videos, leaderboards or social feeds, just a fast tracker for sets, reps, weight and progressive overloading.

Will Plates teach me how to lift?

Plates isn't a coaching app, it's a tool to help you track your progress and stay on top of your training.
